Let's admit it – calzones are pure deliciousness!
It is basically a pizza sandwich! And you can stuff it with your favorite pizza toppings – the possibilities are endless.
This calzone is our keto take on the traditional carb-filled calzone you would get at your local pizza shop.
Plus, it tastes just as good and is super easy to make!
Keto Calzone Crust
The trick to this keto calzone is the crust.
This recipe utilizes a classic Fat Head Crust.
Fat Head Crust couldn't be easier to make and tastes incredible whether it is savory or sweet!
Once you master this keto crust, the sky is the limit on making incredible keto pizzas, sandwiches, flatbreads, and now even CALZONES!!
What's Do You Fill Your Keto Calzone With?
Our Keto Calzone is stuffed with Italian sausage, ricotta, and mozzarella!
But you can stuff yours with anything that your heart desires!
- Pepperoni
- Chicken
- Bacon
- Pesto
- Pizza sauce
- Peppers
- Onions
- Tomatoes
- Spinach
- Olives
- Basil
The options are endless so mix and match your favorite combination.
This is one of our favorite keto sandwiches. It is technically a sandwich, even though it tastes more like a pizza.
Calzone Tips
Before you start cooking, let's go over a few quick tips:
- Make sure to both knead and roll out your dough! Don't skip these steps.
- Be careful not to over-stuff your calzone.
- If you are stuffing your calzone with veggies, saute them in a skillet beforehand until they are softened slightly.
- If adding pizza sauce, make sure it is sugar-free and don't add too much or the crust will get too soggy.
- We like to keep our sauce on the side and then dip the calzone into it!
What Equipment You Need
Let's Get Cooking
The entire recipe is in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. But first, here are some detailed photos taking you through every step of the process.
#1 – Gather Your Ingredients
First, gather your ingredients for the Calzone Crust.
#2 Melt the Cheeses
Next, melt the mozzarella and cream cheese in the microwave for a total of 90 seconds in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until it is fully melted.
#3 Add the Other Crust Ingredients
To the same bowl, add the egg, almond flour, and baking powder and knead with your hands until incorporated and create a large dough ball.
#4 Roll Out the Dough
Divide the dough ball into 3 equal parts and roll out the dough parts into 8-inch circles in between two layers of parchment as pictured below.
Remove the top layer of parchment paper and carefully transfer the bottom layer of parchment paper with the dough circles on it to a baking sheet.
How to Assemble the Keto Calzone
Time to assemble the Keto Calzone! This is how to assemble a keto calzone:
- Mix your fillings (cheeses & sausage) together in medium bowl.
- Put 1/3 of the filling on one half of each dough circle.
- Fold the other half of the dough over and seal the edges with a fork.
- Beat an egg with a fork lightly and brush the egg over the top of each calzone.
- Using a knife, make 3-4 slits in the top of each calzone about an inch apart.
- Sprinkle the calzones with dried oregano and coarse salt.

How long do you bake a Keto Calzone?
Bake for 20-26 minutes or until the Keto Calzone tops are golden brown and enjoy!!
